Project Hoops for Humanity

0 4

Ok Folks we are branching out!

Project Hoop set up Hoops for Humanity in 2017 to help young refugees in Greece. The project shipped around 150 hoops, and a small team did workshops with young people from City Plaza squat, refugee youth services, Khora and Camp Eleonas. At the end of the project the hoops were distributed to CircusAid,Khora, Camp Eleonas/ Project Elea, and Free Movement Skateboarding. The hoops have continued to be used, and are still in Greece, we have testimonies to confirm their usage.

Next year I want to take this to the next level, I want to go back over to Greece for longer and do more using the equipment that is left, and the knowledge learnt from this year. I also want to run other projects in other places, refugee camps in Europe and with the community here in the UK. Along with sessions for asylum seekers, and people who are in rehabilitation (sexual, domestic violence).

Our Go Fund Me is currently solely for projects with refugees. All funding is and will be spent on the project only, and all help is appreciated, we had such an impact last time, and the response from the hoop community was amazing.

In light of this I have decided to set up as a Community interest company – Project Hoops for Humanity and I will be applying for grants and funding where possible to help bring this movement to life. This project is about giving others the opportunity to learn circus hoop and dance, integrate with others and other cultures, practice, and increase their physical and mental wellbeing independently and collectively.

Project Hoop is currently in the process of setting this up as a social enterprise, where all charity work will now be done under Project Hoops for Humanity. After the success of this years project, Project Hoops for Humanity will focus its attention on the UK and abroad. As an organisation we will be working on empowering and supporting women and young people, by improving their physical and mental health, and wellbeing. This will include but will not be limited to women who have experienced domestic violence; refugees and asylum seekers, women who suffer deprivation and sufferers from issues which have an impact on their mental health; working on rehabilitation and integration.

Our refugee work will see us engaging in activities with refugees in Britain and abroad, working on integration, physical & cognitive development, fitness. These projects will engage women and young people in hula hoop workshops and regular sessions, along with other related activities.
